New technology enables prepaid service providers to offer globally accessible phone cards

Mississauga, ON – April 5, 2004 – TelCan’s latest technological innovation not only allows prepaid service providers to offer phone cards that are accessible from virtually any mobile phone number in the world, but also enables providers to increase their profit margins as they reach into untapped overseas markets.
“How it works is very simple,” says Anton Mendoza, president of TelCan, one of North America’s premier telecom services providers. “The user calls the European- or North American- based access number printed on the back of the card, and then he or she will hear an acceptance beep without being billed for the initial trigger call.
“Our system will grab the caller ID without accepting the call and will immediately call back the user at the number he or she called from. The user will then be prompted to enter the PIN code and the destination number, just like a standard phone card. Our system can also store caller ID with the PIN so there is no PIN required to place calls.”
This new service will enable TelCan’s web-based platform wholesale clients—all of whom have access to features that facilitate distribution levels, rate management, batch management, billing and reporting—to create prepaid card programs and to expand into international markets.
TelCan’s new technology takes advantage of cutting-edge infrastructure. Cellular infrastructure in many overseas markets uses advanced GSM stations that pass the ANI overseas. And since mobile infrastructure is much easier to deploy than fixed lines, it is much easier to get a mobile phone than a landline service in emerging markets. Furthermore, incoming airtime is free!
In cases where international calls are blocked, calls can be triggered through SMS. A client will simply need to send an SMS message with the PIN code to TelCan’s server, which will then activate the card.
